Timberframe

Many of the same traditional joinery techniques used in fine furniture fabrication are also used in timberframe construction, differing only in scale. Lap joints, scarf joints, and mortises and tenons are the same whether holding together a chair or a roof truss. Revealing these structural elements within finished environments offers inhabitants a certain visual directness and intimacy with the building. And the use of traditional hand plastered surfaces between the old timbers offers contrast while maintaining a pleasant unevenness in color and texture.
